Max Adams on his award-winning book 'The King of the North' about King Oswald
South Shields Local History Group are very pleased to welcome Max Adams to give a talk about his book, 'The King in the North', at their meeting on Monday 18th May. Max is an acclaimed archaeologist, biographer and traveller and his book is the first biography of King Oswald who returned from exile to reclaim his homeland, to strengthen his kingdom, found Lindisfarne and pave the way for Northumbria's golden age. 'The King in the North' was awarded the Guardian's Book of the Year in 2014 and has been described as 'The most gripping portrait of 7th Century Britain' by Tom Holland of The Times.
To hear more about Oswald Iding and the royal house of Bernicia come to the meeting which will be held downstairs, in the Central Library theatre, from 5pm to 6.45pm with visitors welcome for a charge of £1.
