'From Fish Quay Folk to Beached Birds' talk by Daniel Turner
On Monday 18th January, members of South Shields Local History Group will welcome Daniel Turner to their meeting to give his talk, titled 'From Fish Quay Folk to Beached Birds'.
Daniel was born and brought up in Tynemouth and from a young age has explored the river mouth and been interested in its bird life. Over many years he became familiar with some of the local characters including fishermen and lifeboat men, who feature in his book, 'Fish Quay Folk of North Shields'. In his talk he will recount the biographies of some of these people and how the river and sea shaped their lives. He will also explain his involvement with the 'Old Low Light' heritage centre at North Shields fish quay, which was officially opened in March 2015, and the Northeast England Beached Bird Surveys Group.
The meeting will be held downstairs in the Central Library theatre, from 5pm to 6.45pm, with visitors welcome for a charge of £1.
