The Large Houses of Cleadon, talk by Penny Middleton
South Shields Local History Group are pleased to welcome Penny Middleton on Monday 18th April for a talk about 'The Large Houses of Cleadon, taking
a look at the history of Cleadon through its large houses, some of which have been lost over the years but a few of which still survive. This talk will look at the changing architecture, patronage and development of these buildings, as well as the lives of some of their more colourful inhabitants.
Penny Middleton is a Building and Heritage Conservation Consultant working for Northern Archaeological Associates Ltd., (NAA). She has undertaken the study of a range of buildings across the North East from castles to coke works, including a number of community based projects. This month’s talk is based on work undertaken by Penny and a team of volunteers as part of the Cleadon Village Atlas Project.
The meeting will be held downstairs in the Central Library theatre, from 5pm to 6.45pm and visitors are welcome with a charge of £1.
