The Tyne - stories of the Tyne and the sailors who sailed from her on their epic journeys round the world, talk by Micael Chaplin
South Shields Local History Group is looking forward to welcoming Michael Chaplin to talk to their members on Monday, April 24th. Michael is a playwright, screenwriter and writer of non-fiction books, who has created many serials and films for television and numerous plays for BBC Radio 4 and Newcastle's Live Theatre. Since returning to his native Tyneside in 2006 Michael has also written and edited a number of books about Tyneside's social history, in particular his acclaimed book 'Tyne View' which formed the basis for the smash-hit Live Theatre show, 'Tyne', as well as 'Tyne Voyages', a popular feature of our new Library and resource centre, The Word.
In his talk to the Group, Michael will tell stories of the Tyne and the sailors who went to sea from our river to make epic journeys around the globe. It promises to be both an enlightening and entertaining evening and visitors are very welcome to join us, at a charge of £1.
The meeting will take place at our new venue, Cleadon Park Library at the Nook, in Room A upstairs, on Monday 24th April between 5.15 and 6.45pm.
