Dr Thomas Masterman Winterbottom, founder of the Marine School - a talk about the lesser-known aspects of his life, by Dr Malcolm Grady
In a change to the advertised programme, South Shields Local History Group looks forward to welcoming Dr. Malcolm Grady as their speaker next Monday, 16th July.  Malcolm will be giving an illustrated talk about the lesser-known side of the life of Dr. Thomas M. Winterbottom, founder of the Marine School and benefactor of so many local charities, featuring his extensive travels across Europe in the 19th Century.

After his career in the field of education ranging from Secondary Schools through to further education and adult education, Malcolm now draws upon his long held interest and considerable research of the history of our town to lecture on a part time basis for both the Joseph Cowen Centre for Lifelong Learning and the WEA.   Malcolm’s enthusiastic and engaging delivery guarantees that his audience is never disappointed, so visitors are welcome to come along at a charge of £1.  The meeting will be held between 5.30 – 6.45pm in Room A, upstairs in Cleadon Park Library at the end of Prince Edward Road.  We hope to see you there.
