Almshouses and Aged Miners' Homes, talk by Dr Christine Seal
The members of South Shields Local History Group are looking forward to Dr. Christine Seal’s visit on Monday 15th July, when she will talk to the Group about Almshouses and Aged Miners' Homes. Christine has researched this subject as part of a nationwide project looking into the various types of homes provided for their residents. Such properties are still a common sight around the North East, including here in South Shields. Her talk will cover the history from their inception, including who founded them and who owns them now.
It promises to be both an interesting and engaging evening and visitors are very welcome at a charge of £1. The meeting will take place at Cleadon Park Library at the Nook, upstairs in Room A, on Monday 15th July between 5.15 - 6.45pm.
