A "Tyneside Heritage: Reflections", by Peter Chapman with book signing.
Peter Chapman’s book, spanning 150 years of South Shields’ changing fortunes, was published a year ago. In this lecture he will discuss the boom years of coal exporting and shipbuilding, the business and community leaders who made it happen, the ensuing problems of unemployment and political turmoil in the inter-war years and the peacetime challenges after it ended.
He will highlight the leading role of the Chapman family in the town and in County Durham, and reflect on topics which are still relevant today.
The event will take place on Monday 18th July, 5.15 to 6.45 upstairs, Room A, at Cleadon Park Library
